To Repair Damage and Restore Function
Inlays and Onlays help your teeth look and perform their best!
Inlays and onlays are both dental restorations to repair damaged teeth or larger cavities. They are often the best choice when chewing teeth (molars or bicuspids) that already have a filling experience more decay in the affected area. The main difference between an inlay and onlay is the portion of the tooth they restore. An inlay lies within the cusps of the tooth, while an onlay replaces one or more of the cusps themselves. Both are smaller than a dental crown, which completely covers the entire tooth.
What’s involved with inlays and onlays?
To receive either an inlay or onlay requires two appointments. First, we take an impression of your teeth to create a complete 3D model of your mouth. The impressions are then sent out to a dental lab where precise fabrication of your restoration occurs. Made to your exact specifications, it’s ready to be bonded in place at your next appointment!
Preventing Problems
You can prevent the need for inlays and onlays by keeping excellent care of your teeth. If you’ve already received treatment for cavities, then be sure to pay attention to those areas. Make sure to brush and floss daily, and be vigilant in attending your dental appointments for regular checkups. Consult with your dentist about the need for additional checkups.
